The PS3 won't have it's impact because it's alienating sony fans and only gearing towards a small demographic.
It's going to take years, with an "s", to become even remotely affordable. The 360 premium isn't even affordable. Analysts wonder why next gen console sales are lower than expected and it's because of the price of the two consoles and the price of an HDTV.
The only way Sony's going to drop it's price is if

I know, it's only been a WHOLE YEAR since it was launch on the 360's oblivion and now it's on the PS3 in a little bit.
might as well, just buy an OEM version and upgrade or do a clean install.
home premium oem is like only 100$, that's not going to change for the next year so just buy it now if your going to have to later.

they're just going to use this new DVD drive sometime down the road while they assemble new 360's ready to be shipped. They're not going to replace anything.
it's very hard to complain when they have the free warranty for every single 360 until the end of 2007. And my advice is not to use the nyko cooler because if your 360 is going to overheat....let it overheat now while you have the warranty

Dual/quad sli anybody. And at 400 a pop, your setting yourself back way way way too far. Consoles will survive because they take NO EFFORT, and for NORMAL CONSUMERS, that's what they want. A cheap, easy to use peice of equipment. How many people want to buy a 2500$ dell, when they could buy a 360 or PS3 and get the same thing. Or a 2000$ ...
Alright, there's no way I'm upgrading my PC...AGAIN. If crysis turns out to be amazing i'll consider buying it. As long as it'll run on medium settings with what I have. If not, no biggy. I've got plenty more killer games for the 360 coming out. If crytek doesn't want to be a part of that, too bad.
